Movie Shots Project
I chose the movie "Iron Man" because I am getting into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies. I had never watched a Marvel movie save for "Ant-Man and the Wasp" because I was practically dragged into the theaters to watch it. I'm going to be entirely honest, I don't enjoy starting movies which is part of the reason I took so long to do this project. I don't think movies are bad or not enjoy watching them, I just have a hard time picking one up and pressing play because I think of the other things I could do and have an easier time doing and don't end up watching them.
It took me 3 weeks to finally watch this movie and start this project but here it is. Iron Man (2008), the first Iron Man movie, is the movie I will be using for this project. I figured this movie would be amazing for the project because it is all about camera shots and which type of movie has more bombastic, crazy, over-the-top camera angles than a superhero movie. With that said, we'll be starting off with an extreme long shot.
Shot #1:
This clip in particular is a series of extreme long shots that demonstrate how far he flew after he kicked his jetpacks into ignition after escaping their base. You barely see him escape the flames of the explosion he caused and he saves his skin barely. You wonder what happens to him immediately after with a close up shot of the debris of what was left of his prototype Iron Man suit.
Shot #2:
This shot demonstrates a boom shot, incorporating many different angles and shots to create one scene where Iron Man is trying to escape a missile. This makes you feel a sense or urgency as the missile is launched, comes towards Iron Man and you watch it slowly make distance as he runs out of time to figure out what to do. You wonder, how will he escape this one? Look and see how he avoids the missile hitting him.
Shot #3:
This shot, normally used to show two characters having a conversation, allowed for the antagonist to have a one-sided monologue with the now paralyzed Tony Stark whom he had incapacitated. This allows for the villain to relay all his thoughts to Tony and creates a sense of dread as we see the color fade in Tony's skin. It is through this scene that we learn the plan of the antagonist and how he is going to try and make weapons using the invention Tony made to stop making weapons.
Shot #4: This is a follow shot for Iron Man where he is getting the hang of the thrusters of the Iron Man suit after calibrating it so that he doesn't fly head first into a wall like he did previously in the movie. This shot makes me feel a sense of victory, like "yes, I finally got it." Especially after seeing the painful initial attempts. We see him get the hang of it more and more throughout the movie after this and this is just the first hoorah of the dynamic Tony Stark's journey to making the most of his suit.
Shot #5: This POV shot makes us feel as if we are in the Iron Man suit seeing how the interface of the suit looks, and how it scans the things around it. Iron Man's suit is very futuristic looking from the inside as well showing how amazing the technology is and it is very cool to be able to experience it.
